SUSTAINABILITY

MATERIALS

Florania begins where most fashion ends, with what already exists. Every piece starts with material research. We source vintage or off-production high quality textiles from Italian factories, circular partners, innovative materials startups and our own archive. We choose materials that carry meaning and soul.

PRODUCTION

Once a fabric enters our studio, it is worked by hand. We drape directly on the body or on a form, building silhouettes through gesture rather than pattern. The material is the main soul of the design.

Our production is divided between two places: our studio in Milan, where design and experimentation happen, and our laboratory in Mantova, close to a social atelier run by women, where retired seamstresses pass their craft to others rebuilding their lives. Every garment is made by people whose names we know.

IMPERFECTION

We do not use the word sustainable lightly. We do not claim perfection. What we can say is this: nothing we make begins from new raw material. Everything is recovered, transformed, and made to last.

Material - vintage, deadstock, and upcycled only
Production - handmade in Milan and Mantova
People - small team, known names, fair work
Waste - every offcut returns to the archive.

OUR COMMITMENT

Florania's work addresses six of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

SDG 5 — Gender Equality
Our brand is founded and directed by women. Our production partner Drittofilo is a women-led cooperative that supports female employment and economic independence in de-industrialised areas of northern Italy.

SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth
We work with small artisanal producers and pay fairly. We believe craft is labour, and labour deserves dignity.

SDG 10 — Reduced Inequalities
Our genderless design philosophy refuses to divide bodies into categories. Clothing is for everyone.

SDG 12 — Responsible Consumption and Production
We produce in limited quantities, only from existing materials. Nothing we make requires new raw resource extraction.

SDG 13 — Climate Action
By working exclusively with upcycled and deadstock fabrics, we eliminate the carbon footprint of raw material production from our supply chain.

SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals
We collaborate with local cooperatives, independent artisans, and research institutions to build a model of fashion that others can learn from and replicate.
